Sustainability, "A Force for Good"
Glad Group’s approach to sustainability is embedded throughout our operations, culture and processes, supported by a clear governance structure and underpinned by our values of Trust, Respect, Integrity and Innovation.
We engage our people and share accountability for the achievement of sustainable outcomes through training and education programs, KPIs and position descriptions. This helps us to ensure that our business will be sustainable well into the future by delivering positive outcomes for all of our stakeholders at the same time as achieving great business outcomes.
Our approach is informed by robust stakeholder engagement that has identified the priority areas for focus. This independently lead process identified a number of key areas, each of which has an articulated target, owner and program of work.
Our approach to Modern Slavery
Glad Group’s corporate behaviour and actions are guided by a set of ethical values which are firmly embedded in our culture: trust, respect, and integrity. Within the Glad Group, success is measured not only in economic terms but also by the way in which we hold ourselves accountable to our obligations towards our employees, clients, shareholders, and society more broadly. These principles are fundamental to how we meet the obligations of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth). Glad Group welcomed the introduction of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) which heralds a new statutory Modern Slavery reporting requirement for larger companies operating in Australia.
Modern Slavery is a serious violation of an individual’s dignity and human rights and is also a serious crime under Australian (and international) law. We have a zero-tolerance approach to Modern Slavery and are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and forming transparent and trusted relationships with our stakeholders and ensuring there are appropriate grievance and remediation frameworks in place. This approach is supported by implementing and enforcing effective governance and management systems and controls to mitigate the risk of Modern Slavery occurring in our own operations or supply chain. This includes:
- Establishing clear expectations of behaviour for our people and our business partners.
- Assessid reviewing our own business operations to ensure that our conditions of employment and those of our direct contracts are fair and equitable and that the policies, processes, and controls in place are appropriate to mitigate any potential risk of Modern Slavery.
- Enhancing our approach to supply chain management. Whilst many of our suppliers are based in Australia, the products that they source will come from all around the world. Consequently, we are engaging with our suppliers to identify potential risks and build transparency and shared understanding and commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights through their and our supply chains.
Our approach to Reconciliation
Glad Group is a diverse business, with our employees coming from all walks of life and all corners of the globe. Consequently, inclusion and equality of opportunity have been a long-standing priority for the business. However, this also extends beyond the walls of our business, to an understanding of the important role that we can (and should play) in society, including how we contribute positively to reconciliation.
Glad Group is committed to working with First Nations communities and has formalised this commitment through our Reconciliation Action Plan. Through our people and our partnerships, such as AES, we aim to promote recognition and equality of opportunity for all Australians. We have also recently launched a Joint Venture with Glad Indigenous.
Our approach to the Environment
Environmental sustainability forms a part of how Glad Group manages its business, with performance reviewed and targets set to improve our performance each year.
However, we know that the emissions generated from Glad Group’s own operations are relatively small therefore understand that there is an important role for us to play in helping our customers to manage and reduce the environmental impacts of their assets and operations as well.
Regardless of the absolute size of our emissions, Glad Group is committed to reducing its direct environmental impact and has a goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2025. With the consumption of electricity at our head office a significant contributor to our emissions profile, we have installed a 100kW solar array on the roof of the building.
This has significantly reduced the emissions profile of Glad Group’s corporate office, with the electricity from the 276 panels almost covering all of the electricity demand for the building. We also take very seriously our responsibility to manage and mitigate environmental risks associated with cleaning processes. We adopt a continuous improvement approach to this and are integrating lower-risk products and practices, and those that are better for the environment, into the way we provide our services.
Our approach to stakeholder engagement
On-going stakeholder engagement is critical to the business and we prioritise establishing relationships that are collaborative and responsive. We regularly seek feedback from our stakeholders to ensure their perspectives are incorporated and impacts considered in decisions that we make, and also participate in relevant industry forums and associations to build our knowledge and form connections.
UNGC: Glad Group is a signatory to the UN Global Compact. The Global Compact is a call to companies to align their strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption. We are excited to further enhance our responsible business activities and our industry’s contribution to sustainable development.
Supply Chain Sustainability School: Glad Group is a proud partner of the Supply Chain Sustainability School. This is a great platform through which we can contribute to and share sustainability knowledge and great practice, to the benefit of not only our suppliers but also the broader industry. Our suppliers are our key business partners and we want to work with them and help build their understanding and capability to manage key sustainability issues, to ensure we achieve the best sustainability outcomes for everyone.
